'''Fengyun 2-05''', also known as '''Fengyun 2D''' is a Chinese [[Engineering:Weather satellite|weather satellite]] which was launched in 2006.<ref>{{cite web|url=https://phys.org/news/2006-12-china-weather-satellite.html|title=China launches second weather satellite|publisher=UPI|date=December 6, 2006|access-date=April 1, 2023}}</ref> It was the fourth satellite to be launched of the Fengyun 2 series, and the second operational spacecraft. It is part of the Fengyun programme.

A [[Engineering:Long March 3A|Long March 3A]] carrier rocket was used to launch Fengyun 2-05, flying from Launch Area 2 at the Xichang Satellite Launch Centre. The launch took place at 00:53 UTC (08:53 CST) on 8 December 2006,<ref name="LL">{{cite web|url=http://planet4589.org/space/log/launchlog.txt|title=Launch Log|publisher=Jonathan's Space Page|first=Jonathan|last=McDowell|accessdate=13 July 2012}}</ref> with the carrier rocket placing the satellite into a [[Engineering:Geosynchronous transfer orbit|geosynchronous transfer orbit]].
