The '''Deepwater conger''' ('''''Xenomystax atrarius''''', also known as the '''Twinpored eel''') is an [[Biology:Eel|eel]] in the family [[Biology:Congridae|Congridae]] (conger/garden eels).<ref name="Fishbase">[http://fishbase.mnhn.fr/summary/Xenomystax-atrarius.html ''Xenomystax atrarius''] at www.fishbase.org.</ref> It was described by Charles Henry Gilbert in 1891.<ref name="Gilbert, 1891">Gilbert, C. H., 1891 (8 Sept.) [ref. 1625] ''Descriptions of apodal fishes from the tropical Pacific. In: Scientific results of explorations by the U. S. Fish Commission steamer Albatross.'' Proceedings of the United States National Museum v. 14 (no. 856): 347-352.</ref> It is a [[Biology:Marine biology|marine]], deep water-dwelling eel which is known from southern {{wipe|Canada}} to {{wipe|Chile}}, in the eastern [[Earth:Pacific Ocean|Pacific Ocean]]. It dwells at a depth range of 165–935 metres. Males can reach a maximum total length of 100 centimetres.<ref name="Fishbase"/>
