The '''ISRO Satellite Centre''' (ISAC) ({{lang-hi|इसरो उपग्रह केंद्र}} {{lang-kn|ಇಸ್ರೋ ಉಪಗ್ರಹ ಕೇಂದ್ರ}}) is the leading centre of [[Astronomy:ISRO|ISRO]] for design, development, fabrication and testing of all Indian made satellites. It was established in the year of 1972 as Indian Scientific Satellite Project (ISSP) in Peenya Industrial Estates of Bengaluru.<ref name="age40">{{cite web | url=http://www.ndtv.com/bangalore-news/bangalores-isro-satellite-centre-turns-forty-481967 | title=Bangalore's ISRO Satellite Centre turns forty}}</ref> ISAC has been renamed as '''U. R. Situated in Vimanapura Post of Bangalore, Karnataka, the centre has recently produced and launched its 100th satellite <ref name="century">{{cite web | url=http://m.hindustantimes.com/india-news/isro-to-launch-100th-satellite-today-a-look-at-space-agency-s-ten-achievements/story-WSNCAVHswR8XUsho2ie8vL_amp.html | title=ISAC's maiden century}}</ref> including the INSAT series, the IRS series, as well as the [[Engineering:GSAT|GSAT]] communication satellites.

Organisations under the umbrella of ISAC include the Laboratory for Electro-Optics Systems (LEOS) and the ISRO Satellite Integration and Testing Establishment (ISITE).

==Organisation==
Like other ISRO centres, ISAC is organised under Matrix Management Structure. The centre is divided into many Functional Areas like Control and Mission Area, Electronic Systems Area, Mechanical Systems Area, Reliability and Components Area etc. Each Area is further divided into groups. For instance, Control and Mission area has many groups like Control Systems Group, Flight Dynamics Group etc. Again Groups are divided into Divisions. For example, Control Systems Group has many divisions like Control Electronics Division, Control Dynamics and Analysis Division etc. Apart from this, Project Planning and Evaluation Group, Computer and Information Group, Space Astronomy and Instrumentation Division are independent, also facilities (like Thermovac facility etc.) and Projects (like IRS, INSAT,SATNAV, etc.) also exists.

* Prof [[Biography:Udupi Ramachandra Rao|Udupi Ramachandra Rao]] (1976-1984) was the founding director. He was a Padma Bhushan recipient who later became the [[Astronomy:Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation|Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation]] and held the post of Chancellor at [[Organization:Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology|Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology]], Thiruvananthapuram till his last days.
