'''C<sup>3</sup> Centauri''' is a suspected [[Astronomy:Astrometric binary|astrometric binary]]<ref name=Eggleton2008/> [[Astronomy:Star|star]] system in the southern [[Astronomy:Constellation|constellation]] of [[Astronomy:Centaurus|Centaurus]]. It has an orange hue and is dimly visible to the naked eye with an [[Astronomy:Apparent visual magnitude|apparent visual magnitude]] of +5.46.<ref name=Anderson2012/> The distance to this object is approximately 342&nbsp;[[Light year|light year]]s based on [[Astronomy:Stellar parallax|parallax]].<ref name=GaiaDR2/> It is a member of the [[Astronomy:Hyades Stream|Hyades Stream]] of co-moving stars.<ref name=Eggen1985/>

The visible component of this system is an aging [[Astronomy:Giant star|giant star]] with a [[Astronomy:Stellar classification|stellar classification]] of K2&nbsp;III,<ref name=houk1978/> which indicates it has exhausted the supply of hydrogen at its [[Astronomy:Stellar core|core]] then cooled and expanded off the [[Astronomy:Main sequence|main sequence]]. At present it has nearly sixteen<ref name=GaiaDR2/> times the [[Astronomy:Solar radius|girth of the Sun]]. It is radiating 96<ref name=GaiaDR2/> times the luminosity of the Sun from its swollen [[Astronomy:Photosphere|photosphere]] at an [[Astronomy:Effective temperature|effective temperature]] of 4,535&nbsp;K.<ref name=GaiaDR2/>
