'''8 Leonis Minoris''' (8 LMi) is a solitary,<ref name = Eggleton2008/> red hued [[Astronomy:Star|star]] located in the northern [[Astronomy:Constellation|constellation]] Leo Minor. It has an [[Astronomy:Apparent magnitude|apparent magnitude]] 5.37,<ref name = Ducati2002/> making it faintly visible to the [[Astronomy:Naked eye|naked eye]]. Based on [[Astronomy:Parallax|parallax]] measurements from the Gaia satellite, the object is estimated to be 492 [[Light year|light year]]s distant.<ref name = GaiaDR3/> It is receding with a heliocentric [[Astronomy:Radial velocity|radial velocity]] of {{val|40|ul=km/s}}.<ref name = Famaey2009/> At its current distance, 8 LMi is diminshed by 0.12 [[Astronomy:Magnitude|magnitude]]s due to interstellar dust.<ref name = Gontcharov2017/>

This is an [[Astronomy:Asymptotic giant branch|asymptotic giant branch]] star<ref name = Eggen1992/> with [[Astronomy:Stellar classification|stellar classification]] of M1 IIIab.<ref name = Yamashita1967/> It has 1.59 times the mass of the Sun<ref name = Kervella2019/> but has expanded to 48.5 times its [[Astronomy:Solar radius|girth]].<ref name = Kervella2021/> It radiates 417 times the luminosity of the Sun<ref name = GaiaDR2/> from its enlarged [[Astronomy:Photosphere|photosphere]] at an [[Astronomy:Effective temperature|effective temperature]] of {{val|3978|ul=K|fmt=commas}}.<ref name = Stassun2019/> 8 LMi has an [[Chemistry:Iron|iron]] abundance only half of the [[Astronomy:Sun|Sun]]'s, making it metal deficient.<ref name = GaiaDR3/> 

8 LMi's variability was first observed to be variable in 1930 by Joel Stebbins.<ref name = Stebbins1930/> However, Eggen (1967) instead lists it as an ordinary M-type giant and used the object for comparison.<ref name = Eggen1967/> In 1978-9, 8 LMi was again listed as a variable star but did not provide further insight.<ref name = Pyl'skaja1978/>  As of 2017, the star has not been confirmed to be variable.<ref name = Samus2017/>
