It is visible to the naked eye as a dim, orange-hued star with an [[Astronomy:Apparent visual magnitude|apparent visual magnitude]] of 5.88.<ref name=Anderson2012/> This object is moving closer to the Earth with a heliocentric [[Astronomy:Radial velocity|radial velocity]]  of −48&nbsp;km/s, and is expected to come to within {{Convert|34.08|pc|ly|0|disp=out}} in around 3.6&nbsp;million years.<ref name=Anderson2012/>

This object is an aging [[Astronomy:Giant star|giant star]] with a [[Astronomy:Stellar classification|stellar classification]] of K4&nbsp;III,<ref name=adams1935/> having exhausted the hydrogen supply at its [[Astronomy:Stellar core|core]] then expanded to 36<ref name=GaiaDR2/> times the Sun's radius. It is roughly two<ref name=Feuillet2016/>&nbsp;billion years old with 1.4<ref name=Feuillet2016/> times the mass of the Sun. The star is radiating 358<ref name=GaiaDR2/> times the luminosity of the Sun from its swollen [[Astronomy:Photosphere|photosphere]] at an [[Astronomy:Effective temperature|effective temperature]] of 4,157&nbsp;K.<ref name=Feuillet2016/>
