'''40 Boötis''' is a single<ref name=Eggleton2008/> [[Astronomy:Star|star]] located 166.5&nbsp;[[Light year|light year]]s away from the Sun in the northern [[Astronomy:Constellation|constellation]] of [[Astronomy:Boötes|Boötes]]. It is visible to the naked eye as a dim, yellow-white hued star with an [[Astronomy:Apparent visual magnitude|apparent visual magnitude]] of 5.64.<ref name=Anderson2012/> The star is moving away from the Earth with a heliocentric [[Astronomy:Radial velocity|radial velocity]] of +12&nbsp;km/s.<ref name=Casagrande2011/>

The Hipparcos catalogue (1997) lists a [[Astronomy:Stellar classification|stellar classification]] of F1&nbsp;III–IV,<ref name=ESA1997/> matching the luminosity class of an aging star that is [[Astronomy:Stellar evolution|evolving]] into a [[Astronomy:Giant star|giant]].<ref name=Schröder2009/> Earlier, Cowley and Bidelman (1979) listed a class of F2&nbsp;III,<ref name=Cowley1979/> while Sato and Kuji (1990) found a [[Astronomy:Main sequence|main sequence]] class of F0V.<ref name=Sato1990/> It is around 1.2<ref name=David2015/>&nbsp;billion years old with a relatively high rotation rate, showing a projected rotational velocity of 72.5&nbsp;km/s.<ref name=Schröder2009/> The star has 1.5<ref name=David2015/> times the mass of the Sun and 2.4<ref name=GaiaDR2/> times the Sun's radius. It is radiating 11.6<ref name=GaiaDR2/> times the luminosity of the Sun from its [[Astronomy:Photosphere|photosphere]] at an [[Astronomy:Effective temperature|effective temperature]] of 7,070&nbsp;K.<ref name=David2015/>
