'''38 Arietis''' (abbreviated '''38 Ari''') is a [[Astronomy:Variable star|variable star]] in the northern [[Astronomy:Constellation|constellation]] of [[Astronomy:Aries (constellation)|Aries]]. ''38 Arietis'' is the [[Astronomy:Flamsteed designation|Flamsteed designation]]. It was once designated '''88 Ceti''',<ref name=jha18_3_209/> forming part of the neighboring constellation of [[Astronomy:Cetus|Cetus]]. With an  [[Astronomy:Apparent visual magnitude|apparent visual magnitude]] of +5.18,<ref name=sps1966/> it is bright enough to be viewed with the naked eye. The measured annual [[Astronomy:Parallax|parallax]] shift of 27.52&nbsp;mas<ref name=aaa474_2_653/> is equivalent to a distance of approximately {{Convert|119|ly|pc|abbr=off|lk=on}} from Earth.

The spectrum of this star matches a [[Astronomy:Stellar classification|stellar classification]] of A7&nbsp;III-IV,<ref name=aj74_375/> with the luminosity class of III-IV indicating it shows traits part way between the subgiant and [[Astronomy:Giant star|giant star]] stages of its [[Astronomy:Stellar evolution|evolution]]. It is a [[Astronomy:Delta Scuti variable|Delta Scuti variable]] with a period of 0.0355&nbsp;days (51 minutes) and a magnitude change of 0.040.<ref name=aas144_469/> This star is larger than the Sun, with more than double the Sun's radius and 11 times the luminosity.<ref name=aaa392_515/> This energy is being radiated into outer space from the [[Astronomy:Stellar atmosphere|atmosphere]] at an [[Astronomy:Effective temperature|effective temperature]] of 7,638&nbsp;K,<ref name=aaa392_515/> giving it the white-hued glow of an A-type star.
