It was discovered on 27 December 1934, by astronomer [[Biography:Louis Boyer (astronomer)|Louis Boyer]] at the Algiers Observatory, who named it after his niece, Yvette.<ref name="springer" /><ref name="MPC-object" />

''Yvette'' is a Themistian asteroid that belongs to the [[Astronomy:Themis family|Themis family]] ({{small|[[Astronomy:FIN tbl#602|602]]}}),<ref name="lcdb" /><ref name="Ferret" /> a very large [[Astronomy:Asteroid family|family]] of nearly 5,000 member asteroids, named after 24&nbsp;Themis.<ref name="Nesvorny-2014" />{{rp|23}} It orbits the Sun in the [[Astronomy:Kirkwood gap|outer]] main belt at a distance of 2.8–3.6&nbsp;[[Astronomy:Astronomical unit|AU]] once every 5 years and 8 months (2,075 days; semi-major axis of 3.18&nbsp;AU). Its orbit has an [[Astronomy:Orbital eccentricity|eccentricity]] of 0.13 and an [[Astronomy:Orbital inclination|inclination]] of 0[[Degree (angle)|°]] with respect to the [[Astronomy:Ecliptic|ecliptic]].<ref name="jpldata" />

The asteroid was first identified as {{mp|1930 DO}} at Heidelberg Observatory in February 1930. The body's [[Astronomy:Observation arc|observation arc]] begins with its official discovery observation at Algiers in 1934.<ref name="MPC-object" />
